Holidays entitlement and special leave
Holiday entitlement
You are entitled to a minimum of 25 days holiday
per year and must have worked with your new
employer for at least three months before you are
entitled to take leave. Leave must be taken within the
calendar year. If you are unable to take your full
entitlement of holiday within this time frame for certain
reasons, such as work commitment or leave taken by
other employees, you may carry the remaining holiday
to the following calendar year, providing it is taken by
the 31st March.
Public holidays
There are ten public holidays per year:
- New Year’s Day;
- Easter Monday;
- 1st May;
- Ascension;
- Whit Monday;
- 23rd June (the Grand Duke’s birthday);
- Assumption;
- All Saints Day;
- 25th and 26th December.
If a public holiday falls on a Sunday, employees are entitled to a extra day’s leave in lieu of the holiday, which must be taken within three months.
Leave for personal reasons
You are entitled by law to take leave for the following reasons:
- marriage - six days;
- death of a spouse, blood relative or relative by marriage of the first-degree - three days;
- house move - two days;
- birth of a child - two days for the father;
- marriage of a child - two days for each parent.
Leave for family reasons
In case of serious illness, accident or imperative health reasons of a child under fifteen years, when the presence of a parent is required:
- Two days per child per year.
