International funding

For a country the size of Luxembourg, it is essential
to encourage its researchers to cooperate with their
foreign colleagues, above all with a view to increasing
the visibility of Luxembourg research abroad and to
encourage the development of a critical mass that
cannot be achieved in such a small country as
Luxembourg. This is done with a number of interesting
projects and programmes:

European research funding through the Seventh
Research Framework Programme FP7

The European Commission offers a wide range of funding opportunities for
both individual researchers and research institutions, under its Seventh Research
Framework Programme FP7.

The national contact point for participation in FP7 is Luxinnovation.

The FNR supports participation in FP7 through a specific accompanying measure. AM6

FNR participation in international organizations or programmes

The FNR facilitates the contact and cooperation between Luxembourg and foreign researchers through the following tools:

INTER Programme: Promotion of International Cooperation
(click here for a description of the programme)

The aims of the INTER programme are as follows:

  • to promote international scientific cooperation;
  • to create synergies between research centres within and outside Luxembourg;
  • to achieve a critical mass in certain fields;
  • to take a better approach to the resolution of certain transnational issues;
  • to make research in Luxembourg more visible and more competitive.

The INTER programme will not involve participation in individual projects at international level, but solely participation in international programmes that will be developed jointly with other research funds or councils outside Luxembourg, or in programmes already in place at international level in which the Fund may decide to participate.
