The National Library of Luxembourg

The national library of Luxembourg is the largest encyclopaedic scientifc libabry in the country housing more than 750,000 volumes and 3,500 titles of international periodicals of any discipline.

Robert Schuman Centre for European Studies and Research (CERE)

Since 1990 the centre has been studying and promoting knowledge in the history of European unification.

The two focal points in the centre's historical research are:

• European integration in the long term;
• Luxembourg and the challenge of European integration.

Scientific Research Centre of the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN)

The Centre carries out research into all fields of natural heritage and its preservation, particularly in the following domains:

population biology;

• botany;
• ecology;
• geology and mineralogy;
• astrophysics and geophysics.

European Centre for Geodynamics and Seismology (ECGS)

Objectives of ECGS include the development of European research and training programmes of geophysics, geodynamics and metrology in the field of tectonic distortions.

Laboratory for Cancer-Related Molecular and Cellular Biology (LBMCC)

The laboratory is currently carrying out several basic research projects on the molecular biology of cancer, with their primary interest in the resistance mechanisms of cancer and, more particularly, in the resistance of leukemic cells to anti-cancer drugs.

National Health Laboratory (LNS)

The LNS's objectives are:

• to study epidemiological and hygiene problems;
• carry out laboraoty work relatiing to hygiene;
• inspect foodstuffs and carry out laboratory analyses;
• conduct toxicological laboratory analyses;
• help devise and inplement health policies;
• conduct research into these various fields.

Research support centres

Virtual Resource Centre for Knowledge about Europe (CVCE)

The CVCE's objective is to provide a structure that accomodates three areas of interest:

• the research, gathering, selection, processing and dissemination of infomration on the European intergration process;
• the promotion of cutting-edge technology and the establisment of a point of reference in the field of ditital libraries;
• the exchange of information, experiences and resources for the benefit of European citizens and the world of education.

The RESTENA Foundation

The foundations two main objectives are:

• to provide cutting-edge solutions to meet the communication requirements of Luxembourg's educational and scientific research institutions;
• coordinate internet services by managing top-level .lu domain names and operating a netural platform for the exchange of domestic Internet traffic.
