Applications are invited for the above post within the Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre in Manufacturing and On-Wing Technology, (see: http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/utc), in the Division of Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. The department has an excellent international reputation for high quality theoretical and experimental research funded by EPSRC, DTI, EU and manufacturing industry.

The person appointed will be based in the area of Mechatronic Systems Design for Aero-Engine Manufacturing. In this role, you will be at the forefront of research that offers significant technological challenges and innovations, with an aim to improve the quality in design of mechatronics for aerospace industry. In addition, he/she should have excellent analytical skills and ability to evaluate/simulate mechanical and mechatronics systems with a track record in producing innovative mechanical or mechatronics designs. Working knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. Python/C++) and experience on programming in Matlab/Labview would be preferable.

Apart from being able to lead the research work on this project, good communication, presentation/reporting and publishing skills are required for the person appointed to effectively interact with the international academic and industrial partners involved in this demanding research project. In addition to carrying out project work, the researcher will benefit from exposure to internationally leading industrial companies that are interested in the results of this project and willing to collaborate on spin-out individual projects.

Candidates must possess a very good first Degree or Master's in mechatronics/mechanical engineering or related disciplines, and a relevant PhD (or near completion), ideally in mechatronics/mechanical or related field of mechatronics engineering.

This full-time (36.25 hours per week) post is available as soon as possible, and will offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of two years. Job share arrangements may be considered.
