OFFER DESCRIPTION
As a developer, you will be involved in all steps of the further development of the system based on defined specifications and guidelines. Under the supervision of the Genebank Curator, you operate in Leuven and interact with the KU Leuven IT-departments and Bioversity, France IT-team, ensuring that MGBMS runs effectively and securely on a daily basis.
Responsibilities:
- analysing information regarding new technical requirements, identifying needs for changes and solutions to be realized to meet front-end users ‘needs
- drawing up of technical/functional designs
- further developing of the components of the database and of the existing application in Visual Studio, VB.Net, ASP.Net.
- running system test with test scripts and test reports, and perform bug fixes
- performing maintenance of the system
- reviewing periodically the existing data model to ensure efficient data exchange and interoperability with other systems (e.g. MGIS)
- evaluating and testing of other database platforms (e.g. GRIN-Global) used for data management in gene banks
- performing upgrades to make the system more secure and performant
- integrating of new technologies as needed, increasing the efficiency of the LIMS (wireless solutions, cloud solutions)
- ensuring system back-up arrangements within the KU Leuven IT-environment
- providing day-to-day support to front-end users
- technical reporting and documenting of the system

We offer a full time position on a temporary contract, extensible to an indefinite period of time. This function will be remunerated in the KU Leuven salary scale 6, 7 or very exceptionally scale 8, depending on your relevant experience and competences.
Eligibility criteria
- You hold a master degree in Computer Sciences, or equivalent by experience
- Preferably a first professional experience in database development
- You have thorough knowledge of and practical experience with Visual Studio, VB.Net, ASP.Net. and MSSQL
- You are familiar with Java script
- Knowledge of VCS is a plus
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills
- You have the ability to understand front-end users requirements
- You dispose of a problem-solution attitude
- You are stress-resistant and continue to work effectively when there is a deadline or calamity
- You have good communication skills, both in Dutch and English, and fit into an international team
- You have experience in writing technical documents
- You have a self-learning attitude and are willing to keep your IT knowledge up to date
