About the SnT

CritiX (Critical and Extreme Security and Dependability) is a research group, and a laboratory for state-of-the-art research in a problem area that may be described as extreme computing, including the protection of critical systems and data against severe and persistent threats. Your Role

Successful candidates have a unique opportunity of participating in the shaping of a challenging and innovative research themes, as well as contributing to the ambitious research agenda of the CritiX lab, supported by the Luxembourg National Research Fund, FNR (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.fnr.lu_funding-2... rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">http://www.fnr.lu/funding-instruments/pearl), the European Commission and several other projects, namely with Intel Labs, Huawei, and others about to start (https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__wwwen.uni.lu_snt_re... rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://wwwen.uni.lu/snt/research/critix/research_projects). They will be given excellent conditions for the development of their research skills, in terms of working conditions, mentoring and laboratory facilities.

 

The main research topics this opening is calling for are:

 


  • New challenges in HW-assisted and adaptive Byzantine Fault Tolerance (BFT) (blockchain, CPS/IoT appl.)

  • New challenges in applied cybersecurity and resilience (national critical Infrastructures protection)

  • New challenges in resilient computing for embedded and/or real-time systems and control

 

Openings are in the project context of ADMORPH and ThreatAdapt.

 

The candidate will work closely with Prof. Marcus Völp and the team members of the CritiX Research Group.

Your Profile


  • We welcome candidates with a PhD in Computer Science and/or Engineering, Informatics, or related areas in Applied Mathematics and Engineering.

  • Strong background in the theory and practice of Security and/or Fault Tolerance, of Software and/or Distributed Systems and Networks design, verification, and experimental evaluation, will be considered as an advantage.

  • We consider as an advantage, proven experience in several of: fault and intrusion tolerance (a.k.a. BFT), trusted computing and architectural hybridisation (TEE), advanced cryptography, data privacy, blockchain, cloud, SDN or P2P infrastructures.

  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory.

  • We require commitment, team working and a critical mind.
