Description
Postdoctoral Scientist fellowship in
Therapeutic approaches for Schnyder Corneal Dystrophy (SCD)
Laboratory of Angiogenesis and Redox Metabolism
Dept. of Biology, University of Padua, Italy
The laboratory on Prof. Massimo Santoro is seeking post-doctoral fellows to develop therapeutic interventions to treat or prevent Schnyder Corneal Dystrophy. Specific mutations found in the UBIAD1gene product have been associated with SCD (Weiss et al., 2007). UBIAD1 synthetize the non-mitochondrial pool of CoQ10, the most significant lipid antioxidants that prevents the generation of free radicals and protects membrane lipids from oxidation (Mugoni et. al., 2013). By using mouse genetic approaches as well as advanced molecular and microscopic techniques we want to understand the pathogenesis of SCD and elucidate how redox signaling and metabolism regulate this genetic disease. Our laboratory has acquired strong experience in biochemistry, genetic, molecular and cellular biology. Animal facilities, advanced stereo/confocal/light sheet microscopy equipment, advanced gene-editing techniques and metabolic core facilities are all available in the laboratory and Institute to achieve the project successfully. Such studies offer unique opportunities for designing new therapeutic strategies against SCD and other eye-related dystrophies.
The candidate must be a highly motivated researcher with a PhD in a relevant discipline as well as having some experience in genetic, molecular, and/or cellular biology methods. The applicant must have a good publication record in peer-reviewed international journals (including at least one paper as a first author in top-journal) and must be capable of working in a team as well as independently. Excellent communication skills in spoken and written English are required.
We offer a dynamic work environment in a stimulating scientific surrounding with a young,
enthusiastic, motivated team along the opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects. We offer a competitive Telethon-supported salary for 3-years.
