Job description:
The Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology is a leading research institute in the field of aerodynamics/aeroacoustics of airplanes and aerothermodynamics of space vehicles. The C²A²S²E department’s main activity is the development of numerical methods and processes for the multi-disciplinary simulation and optimization of aircraft. In addition to the development of physical models for complex flows and cutting-edge solution algorithms, the department is also active in the development of efficient optimization strategies covering all relevant disciplines, as well as developing surrogate models based on high fidelity simulation methods.
Your main duties are the extension of existing capabilities in the field of data-driven modelling and the investigation of emerging new techniques in the field of machine learning. In particular, various neural network architectures for nonlinear dimensionality reduction of unstructured data should be analyzed. Application areas include the creation of reduced-order models, the efficient quantification of uncertainties and the robust fusion of experimental and numerical data. These tasks should be performed taking the specific requirements of the aerospace industry into account. Therefore, the developed methods will be implemented in an existing software package in close cooperation with industrial partners. Different aircraft configurations will be investigated to demonstrate and evaluate their suitability for industrial problems. Furthermore, users of the software package will be supported in integrating data-driven tools into their specific workflows
This research center is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. With more than 42,000 employees and an annual budget of over € 5 billion, the Helmholtz Association is Germany's largest scientific organisation.
