OFFER DESCRIPTION

Area of research:

Scientific / postdoctoral posts

Job description:

The Institute of Aerodynamics and Flow Technology is a leading research institute in the field of aerodynamics/aeroacoustics of airplanes and aerothermodynamics of space vehicles. The main activity of the C²A²S²E department is the development of numerical methods and processes for the multi-disciplinary simulation and optimization of aircraft - from flight physics design to virtual certification. We develop physical models for complex flows and cutting-edge solution algorithms. We are also active in the development of efficient optimization strategies covering all relevant disciplines, as well as developing surrogate models based on high-fidelity methods. Customizing numerical methods for
optimal efficiency on high-performance computer clusters is of particular importance to the department.

Your tasks are the analysis and further development of a next-generation software for flow simulation, which is being developed in an international collaboration. You will analyze this software with respect to serial and parallel performance on current hardware, upgrade it for use on modern, heterogeneous HPC hardware, explore concepts for optimizing, improving, and restructuring the software, and ultimately implement these concepts within the framework of a distributed development process based on continuous integration. In addition, you will evaluate these algorithms on the basis of industrially relevant simulation scenarios. Your activities are embedded in DLR-internal as well as national andEuropean research collaboration, which are worked on by interdisciplinary teams. You will be able to present your research results at national and international conferences and publish them in relevant journals.

This research center is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. With more than 42,000 employees and an annual budget of over € 5 billion, the Helmholtz Association is Germany's largest scientific organisation.
