OFFER DESCRIPTION

A postdoctoral position is available at the Group of Smart Nanoengineered Materials, Nanomechanics and Nanomagnetism (Gnm3) of the Physics Department at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. We are looking for a motivated postdoctoral researcher to investigate magneto-ionic effects in advanced materials, with the potential to bring this interesting research field to the areas of neuromorphic computing and cryptography. Magneto-ionics refers to the use of voltage to induce ion migration in magnetic materials with the aim of modifying their properties in a non-volatile manner. The duration of the appointment is 1 year (with the possibility of extending it to 2 years) and the gross salary is 32.000 euros per year.

Position requirements:

- Previous expertise in sputtering and other thin-film deposition techniques

- Previous knowledge in electrolyte-gating of magnetic materials

- Previous knowledge in magneto-ionics or magnetoelectric actuation in general

- Outstanding level in English, in particular for scientific writing (publications and projects).

The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) is one of the main public universities in Spain. Recently, UAB was awarded the “Campus of Excellence” for the activities related to the fields of nanoscience and nanotechnology. Indeed, in addition to educational objectives, UAB intends to establish itself as one of the research icons in Europe. Our Group, led by Prof. Jordi Sort, has several years experience of successful recruitment, training and integration of individuals into multinational R&D teams. UAB is used to participating in collaborative R&D projects at international level and has also links to industry. For further information: http://www.uab.cat/

Generally speaking, the research activity in Gnm3 is focused on the design, synthesis and characterization of advanced materials with unique properties, suitable for widespread innovative engineering applications. We seek new types of materials, whose microstructure can be precisely controlled at the nanoscale level, leading to enhanced mechanical, magnetic, thermal and anti-corrosion performances. The investigated systems include nanoparticles, nanowires, lithographed micro- and nano-objects, mesoporous and nanoporous structures, electrodeposited and sputtered thin films, bulk metallic glasses and bulk nanocomposite materials. Interested applicants should send a full CV, a Letter of Interest and the contact details of two possible senior researchers which could support your application before the 30th of September 2021 to Prof. Jordi Sort: Jordi.Sort@uab.cat
